Ipswich has a rich maritime heritage, the port being founded in the 6/7th Century, and the historic Waterfront,  close to the centre of the town, has undergone an exciting renaissance. Restaurants and bars spill out onto a quayside where an array of yachts and cruisers are moored. The "Wet Dock Maritime Trail" is well worth the walk, guiding you past the old warehouses, inns, merchant houses and quays that make up this fascinating area. Or take a cruise on the Orwell Lady down the River Orwell, one of the most beautiful river estuaries in the UK. Or why not ‘shop till you drop’ - in big-name stores and more specialist shops. For night-time fun, try one of the numerous eating establishments, friendly pubs, visit the cinema, or take in a show at The Regent or New Wolsey Theatres.
